Boho Mid-century Modern Living Room Reveal

Our boho mid-century modern living room is finally (semi) finished! This space is where we spend most of our time working or watching Netflix. I love how airy and bright the space ended up being!

The first step after we purchased our home was to paint all of the walls white (they were grey). We LOVED the coved ceilings in our 1951 home and luckily they were already white. Our hardwood floors were also newly refinished.

When I started envisioning this space I was planning on far less color and more clean lines. But, I realized I am not good at minimalism haha. This was the last space we finished, so it was fun to play off of our other rooms and add in boho and mid-century modern touches to the living room.

The hardest part, honestly, was finding the perfect sectional! That and the mismatched, but coordinating, throw pillows (eek). I did a lot, A LOT, of research for sectionals because 1) they are expensive and an investment 2) I really wanted something comfy but structured.

Stores I found had the best options: Interior Define, West Elm, Article, Joybird. Most of these stores are custom orders, AKA that couch is going to take a while. I ALMOST ordered from Interior Define, but just could not wait 18 weeks!

HOT TIP: I have heard that West Elm fabric PILLS! So only order leather or velvet.

Our sectional is from Nebraska Furniture Mart and was about half the price I was going to pay at Interior Define: $1,400. It has a reversible chaise too! I did find it on Houzz.com! Our pink chair is also from NFM.

West Elm came through with this coffee table that was 50% off when I snagged it! The style probably isn’t for everyone, but I love the little tray part. The other big design element you see is the rug. It’s a 100% wool rug from RugsUSA (gifted). I am a little worried about how the weaving will hold up over time, but for now, I absolutely love it!

While most of the main living areas are now DONE, we still have the bathroom, guest room, and the attic space to tackle! Make sure you are following me on Instagram to see updates!

Home Reveal: Mid-century Hygge Bedroom

Creating our mid-century hygge bedroom: Hello all! My husband and I purchased our first home in December 2020! The 1951 home is full of natural light, arches, and little touches of character. My first step was to paint everything white! I used Sherwin Willians Alabaster for the walls and it’s perfect. My inspiration for our home came from my love for mid-century furnishings and the hygge lifestyle!

hyg·ge

noun

a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture).

Working with the warm white paint color I mixed in creams, ivory, and bright white for a classic feel that still gave interest. Most of our bedding can be found at Target! I love the Hearth and Hand with Magnolia collections so much (like everyone) and they did an amazing job with this solid quilt and linen blend euro pillows! I also found the perfect little lumbar pillow there, Oversize Lumbar Woven Global Pillow – Threshold™

Adding Texture | Mid-century Hygge Bedroom

While I LOVE white, I needed to give the space some dimension. Texture is a big contributor when you are using a lot of the same color family. The Waffell Diamond Textured Trellis Tassel Area Rug from @rugsusa and the tassel throw blanket (Home Goods) add to the hygge bedroom vibes!

Adding Color | Mid-century Hygge Bedroom

While all the base elements are neutrals, I added pops of color in pieces I can easily change depending on my mood and the season. The painting you see on the wall (TJMaxx, see similar options below) is where I worked from and added in some pink, tan, and green in the plants. I also made sure to pick a mid-century bed frame that was wood for extra warmth.

For the nightstands, I actually found these at Home Goods for $30 each! The decor for them is either thrifted or from Home Goods as well.

Amazon Finds: shelves, wall sconces, curtains, curtain rod, and ceiling fixture

I can’t wait to work on the rest of our spaces and show you everything I’ve been dreaming up!
